Read what you were sent after a card went missing, and switch the cards off while you work. Learn more about notifications.
Prerequisites
- The extension installed and connected to a server. See Install a server.
Read the notification list
The list holds the last 50 notifications you were sent, newest first, with the ones you have not opened above a line and the ones you have below.
- Open the extension’s options page: the gear in the side panel’s header.
- Select Notifications.
- Open a row to open its thread and mark it read, or select the button at the top to mark everything above the line read without opening anything.
Each row says who, what, an excerpt, which page, and how long ago.
A notification card stands for one notification or for several. Clicking a card for several opens the same list. Clicking a card for one notification opens the list too, unless that notification’s page is already open in a tab. Then the click brings that tab to the front, opens the thread in the page’s comment overlay, and marks the notification read, which moves it below the line in the list.
Turn notifications down
- On the comment overlay’s toolbar, select the bell, labeled “Notifications are on. Turn them off”. That stops the notification card, and its sound with it, without leaving the page.
- Optional: to keep the card and lose only the sound, untick Make a sound on the extension’s Settings screen instead.
The bell is the same setting as Tell me when somebody answers on the Settings screen, and the two stay in step. Commentware plays its own sound, because a Chrome extension notification does not come with one.
Check that it worked
The bell on the toolbar is crossed out and labeled “Notifications are off. Turn them on”, and Tell me when somebody answers on the Settings screen is unticked.
Next steps
- Comment on a page: reply without telling everybody in the thread.
